Okay, we all know the dishwasher is a workhorse in the kitchen. But just like any other appliance, it needs a little love and care to keep it running smoothly. Here are some simple (and quick!) tips to help extend the life of your dishwasher:
Scrape or Wipe First.
These days, most people know that you don’t need to pre-rinse your dishes before loading them into the dishwasher, as dishwashers use less water than running dishes under a tap, but it is still a good idea to remove any leftover food stuffs so dishes get cleaned on the first attempt and do not have to be run through the dishwasher a second time. Simply scrape off large bits of food into the bin or wipe them over with a paper towel.
Run Full Loads.
Try to wait until you have a full load of dishes before running the dishwasher. Not only does this save water and energy, but it also reduces wear and tear on the machine.
Clean the Filters.
The filter is the unsung hero of your dishwasher. Clean it out every couple of weeks to prevent food buildup and ensure water flows freely.
