Manufacturer vs Installer Warranty – What’s the Difference?
Powerstate Services often get asked about the difference between manufacturer and installer warranties. Let’s break it down in simple terms..
Manufacturer versus Installer Warranties.
So, you’ve just had a new air conditioner or appliance installed at home. Awesome! But what happens if something goes wrong? That’s where warranties come in, and it’s important to know what is covered under both the manufacturer’s warranty and the installer’s warranty.
Manufacturer Warranty – Covers the Product Itself.
The manufacturer’s warranty is the one that comes with your appliance or air conditioning unit from the company that made it, such as LG, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, etc. This warranty covers faults or defects in the actual unit – basically, anything that goes wrong due to a manufacturing issue.
What it usually covers:
- Faulty internal parts (like a compressor, fan motor, or circuit board).
- Problems caused by manufacturing defects.
- Often includes labour, depending on the brand, and workmanship.
What it doesn’t cover:
- Any faults or damage caused by the installation process.
- External components added during install (like extra wiring or piping).
- Acts of God (e.g. accidents, extreme weather etc), user damage or lack of maintenance.

Installer Warranty – Covers the Installation Work.
Now here’s where Powerstate Services comes in. We offer a 12-month installer warranty on all our installations. This covers the quality of the installation itself, not the appliance.
What we cover:
- Any issues related to how the unit was installed.
- Materials we used during installation (like pipes, wires, or brackets).
- Workmanship – if something wasn’t done right, we’ll come back and fix it.
What we don’t cover:
- Faults with the unit itself (that’s the manufacturer’s job).
- Consumables including light globes, fluorescent tubes, batteries, fuses or filters.
- Normal maintenance costs.
- Product recalls.
- Damage caused by:
-
- Negligent, accidental or deliberate misuse.
- Unauthorised repairs or modifications.
- Liquid penetration.
- Electrical interferences, power surges, voltage fluctuations or lightning.
- Vermin, pests or insects.
- Rust or corrosion.
- Abnormal or excessive usage.
Warranties Depend on Maintenance.
Something that often gets overlooked is that both types of warranty can become void if the unit isn’t properly maintained.
For example:
- Dirty air conditioner filters that haven’t been cleaned regularly can cause performance issues, and both the manufacturer and installer may refuse to cover the damage.
- Blocked drains or clogged parts due to lack of cleaning are also considered avoidable issues.
- Not following the manufacturer’s recommended service schedule could also void the warranty.
- Damage or malfunction caused by accident, abuse, negligence, misuse or DIY repairs.
So, it’s super important to keep your unit clean and serviced, even if it’s brand new. It’s all about keeping things running smoothly and making sure your warranty stays valid.
Why You Need Both Warranties
You need both types of warranty because they cover different things.
- If your air con stops working because of a faulty part inside, that’s the manufacturer’s warranty.
- If it starts leaking because a pipe wasn’t fitted properly, that’s on the installer’s warranty – and we’ll sort it out.
Our Tip? Keep Both Handy
- Register your product with the manufacturer (usually takes just a few minutes online).
- Keep a copy of your invoice from Powerstate Services – that’s your proof for our installer warranty.
- Stick to the recommended cleaning and maintenance schedule.
- Reach out to us if you’re unsure who to contact – we’re always happy to help.
